There is a historical story to our property. The salon began as a farmhouse with several acres in the rural area of Topeka, Kansas in the 1930s. The farmhouse and acreage was initially owned by the Butner family who owned the popular grocery store called Butners IGA located at Huntoon and Gage. The farmhouse was actually located closer to Gage but was moved further west to make room for commercial development.

The farm acreage was then plotted and lots were sold off for residences that are there to this day. In the 1950s the farmhouse was sold to a prominent chiropractor, Dr. Zoeller, and it was rezoned for office space. After approximately 25 years Dr. Zoeller sold it to Dr. Paul Rebeck who made it a dental office. In 1997 Dr. Rebeck sold it to Bill and Sharon Kress who rezoned the property to commercial and founded a hair salon called 19th St. Hair Station. It was later renamed 19th St. Salon & Spa.

Since 1997 the property has undergone several renovations spearheaded by owner Bill Kress, who was a union commercial carpenter. The most extensive renovation was the addition of the second floor spa area, and expanding the Aveda retail makeup area and the checkout desk.

In 2010, 19th St. Salon & Spa purchased the house just west of the salon and put in additional parking between the two units.
